Linda was the best among us. I miss her every day. She embodied the bourgeois liberal mentality of equality. She was never too good to do what needed to be done and she was convinced by experience that ordinary people, without titles or regalia, status or assets, could do astonishing things when they just were accorded the liberty to do so.

Dear, Linda Whetstone ! You lived a life of significance, dedicated to the cause of making the world a more beautiful place for everyone of every colour. You are unforgettable; you are in my heart and in the hearts of everyone, African, European, Asian, and American alike. You were a beacon of hope, living your life as if it were a candle, spreading light and hope for a brighter and more beautiful future. You led by example and made a difference in the world. You were exceptional and unreplaceable. You set an example of sacrifice, docility, love, compassion, and leadership… Read more »

From John Mustapha in South Sudan

Linda Whetstone was the best to work with because she was very supportive and encouraging. She didn’t mind supporting and working with friends of liberty in some difficult African Countries such as South Sudan.
Your vision and legacy will continue to be our light as you rest in peace.

Linda was such a delight, smart, witty, fun, and so passionate about liberty for all. I am inspired by her and wish I had known her more than the 2 short years that I did. Although our time knowing each other was short, her impact on me and so many in the world will live on in perpetuity. My deepest condolences to her family, may God give you peace and comfort in all the wonderful memories.

I salute the memory of an exceptional woman!

We all know you as a voice of freedom, a strong lady who hardly worked for promotion of liberty around the globe and championed the cause of humanity.

The outpouring of love for Linda Whetstone is testament to the legacy of freedom and liberty she leaves behind. She was perhaps the most energetic person I’ve ever met, always tirelessly organising new ventures and exciting events to spread the gospel of the free market. When I worked for the IEA she would come up to me and ask about what student groups I had spoken with, what materials we could send out to universities, and most importantly: “How can I help?!” She was a true inspiration who helped to change so many lives around the world. We will miss… Read more »

My very, very sweet Linda Whetstone, since 2013 I have spoken to you so often and on so many topics, not only about my libertarian experience, but also about various everyday topics, such as my questions, how do you manage to do all this alone and how you are always so active and energetic and you said that this is “my lifestyle” and started talking about it. I remember you got an Atlas Network cup in New York and were very happy with a simple cup of tea as you said your cup is already old and the Atlas Network… Read more »

We are watching this service from Perth. Australia and remembering so many inspirational memories of our times with Linda.
Our warmest wishes to Francis and your remarkable family.
Linda’s instructions to us today would simply be “You know what you need to do, so, just get on with it!”

Linda was a wonderful person who we thought and hoped would go on for ever championing freedom in even the most challenging countries. She was a energetic driving force when we founded the Istanbul Network for Liberty which later became the Islam & Liberty Network. There should be no limits to where we can spread the message of liberty and Linda was a living example of this. We already miss her. Love, Syed

Linda Whetstone left this world on 15th December 2021, as a result of a sudden heart attack, while she was attending the annual conference of Atlas Network, the organization her father Sir Antony Fisher founded, and which supports hundreds of free-market oriented think tanks around the world. Atlas Network has also supported ILN for some projects. Around 2006-2007, Linda, alongside Lord Syed Kamall and others, was an early proponent of a network of Islamic thinkers to promote the vision of Islam’s compatibility with liberty. Her vision was realized in 2011 and the inaugural meeting of the network took place in… Read more »

Lin’s Funeral was always going to be the saddest day in my life, but thanks to the proper organisation, incredible attention to detail, and beyond perfect content Family Whetstone made the same day very beautiful.
The Church, The Vicar, The Choir, The Flowers, the Order of Service, the Hymns, the Readings, the Eulogy, the Video, the Weather, the Wake  …… every one of the above reflecting Lin’s life perfectly.
You could NOT have made Lin’s Farewell better, kinder, or more perfect.
Thank you making the saddest day in my life also so beautiful.

Linda has been a guide and inspiration to many of us in the dressage world. I count myself honoured to have known and worked with her. Her knowledge, compassion, humour and capacity to listen and help were legendary. She will be missed so much but her legacy will last forever.

The words from Linda’s daughters and granddaughters were extremely moving. I met Linda at random at a conference in 2015, and have been involved in supporting the causes that she believed in ever since.
