Fr Owen was a very special person to me. I did altar serving for him over some years. Knowing him and experiencing him as a person was a great privilege. He was a very special priest. I’d hoped to meet with him again after easing of COVID regulations.
Father Owen was such a special person, always ready with a kind word and a hug. He baptised my daughter and presided over the First Communion Masses for both of my children – my son’s First Communion was the first Mass said in the newly refurbished and enlarged Church. Three years ago his support was invaluable following the sudden death of my husband and he helped me through the funeral and the time afterwards. I served as a Eucharistic Minister for him for a few years. I had hoped to visit him following his retirement when restrictions eased. I will… Read more »
Fr Owen, God bless his gentle soul. Fr helped me and my family, through some truly dreadful times, always kind and wise words to give comfort, without his support I don’t think I would have coped. I had the honour and privilege to serve as a eucharistic minister alongside him for several years, it truly was a privilege. Rest in peace and rise in glory Fr Owen
What can you say about our lovely Fr Owen so kind and spiritual and filled with love. He is loved and missed by all the parishioners he cared for over the years.
Fr Owen was the assistant priest in Arnold where i grew up. His kindness and holiness made a big impact on me where he sowed the seeds of my vocation. As a brother Priest he remained a close friend not least on the golf course! Rest in peace Owen
Fr Owen. What can I say; there aren’t words that adequately describe the man and the priest I, and countless others, had the privilege to meet and know. Fr Owen had time for everyone no matter whether they were 90 years of age or 90 days. I personally witnessed this when he made a point of speaking to my Mum when she was visiting and I brought her to a November service for deceased loved ones and again when he blessed my week old grandson on his first visit to Church. There were other times when Fr Owen’s gift of… Read more »
What a great man. My love always.
What a lovely caring person Father Owen was. We will miss him loads. Always greeted you by name and either a hand shake for the men or a cuddle for the females, sometimes even a kiss. Rest in peace Father Owen. With deepest sympathy to his family.
As a fellow church leader in Harborough, Owen always brought a precious mix of wisdom, perspective, faith and grace to our conversations (with a healthy measure of humour!). He listened intentively, honouring God at work in other, helped us see a wider perspective if a particular challenge seemed to be overwhelming and most of all reflected God’s care and call with such love. He will be greatly missed in Harborough but we give thanks to God for his faith and the faithfulness of his Redeemer and Saviour so know our grief is not in vain. With prayers at this time… Read more »
Father Owen was a beautiful soul inside & out. No matter what your faith was, he had time for everybody. He welcomed us into Market Harborough with open arms, almost 18yrs ago and we have never looked back. We will miss his lovely smiling face, his compassion and most of all his hugs. Taken too soon but heaven has gained an angel – RIP Father.
beautiful words , you speak for so many who came to Harborough and who Father made feel as if they had come home. never a stranger always a warm welcome
A truly wonderful man who had such a positive impact on everyone he came into contact with.
We have been genuinely privileged that he has faithfully served both the Catholic and wider Community in Market Harborough for almost 20 years.
Personally, he freely offered great support and wisdom to all of our family.
At a professional level, he was a real pleasure to work with, his humility shone through and always made bereaved families feel at ease at their time of need.
Rest in Peace Fr. in your beloved homeland in County Tipperary.
Thank you for everything.

Farewell Father Owen, the most gentle, kind , sympathetic man with a ready smile , kind word and a ready wit ,so so sadly missed but safely in the arms of Jesus , rest peacefully dear Father xxx
Fr. Owen was very special to Charles and I and my girls. He celebrated the marriage of our youngest daughter a few years ago at Market Harborough and the young people who came along to the Church commented to me “Mrs. Payne – that Vicar was amazing!” I typed his first newsletter for him when he came to St. John Bosco many years ago and he always reminded me of how grateful he was. He has always been very welcoming to everyone and a true Shepherd of our Faith. We will miss him. Rest in Peace Fr. Owen. Love and… Read more »

In Fr Owens ministry over so many years he was always courteous and welcoming to the other clergy of Market Harborough for both prayer and support especially as a new curate in 1986
God Bless you Father. Your words and strength will live on in everyone you ever met. Andy, Rachel and Isaac Williams. x
Father Owen was a very compassionate man who gave his all to us in his thoughts, words and deeds and he loved his fellow man as he did his God. R.I.P. Father.
We first met Fr Owen in 1978 when he was Administrator of The Catholic Children’s Society. When he was moved to St John Bosch Parish in Leicester, he and our Parish Priest, Fr Brendan O’Callaghan, of St Mary’s South Wigston, decided to work together to provide a wider range of Masses to give the people of both parishes a greater opportunity to get to Mass. We started going to the Saturday evening Vigil Mass at St John Bosch, where two of our children received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Fr Owen. When Fr Owen was moved to Lincoln, we used… Read more »
Father Owen was one of the loveliest and most reverent priest I have ever known. He married my son and daughter-in-law and baptized both of their children. All were joyous occasions that we will never forget. RIP Father Owen you have gotten the reward you truly deserve.
Fr Owen – such a special, kind and gentle man, who welcomed everybody into the church, whether they were Catholic or not, so wise and modern in his thinking, he could converse with young and old alike. And what wonders he did in the extension and refurbishment of our Lady of Victories – his legacy will live on for many years to come. I will always be grateful for the support he has shown our family over the years and the comfort he brought to my dad in his final days. God bless you Father, rest in peace with the… Read more »

We arrived in Ratcliffe on Trent at much the same time as Father. He was a regular visitor to our house and we have kept in touch since then . His last favour to us was to say Mass on our Golden Wedding. Precious memories.
Father Owen was a lovely, caring man and wonderful, spiritual priest. He inspired, guided and consoled me. His love of the Church and Sacraments was always very evident as was his compassionate understanding of human fraility. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. May he rest in joy and peace.
My abiding memories of Fr Owen are his sense of humour, even mischief, the warm welcome for everyone at every mass and his surprisingly liberal views for one of his (our) generation. Do they have golf in heaven? I hope so.
